Sony’s anime streaming service Crunchyroll continues to grow significantly and now has more than 21 million paid subscribers. This means that the upward trend of recent years continues.
Increase of 4 million
It was only in May 2025 that Crunchyroll exceeded the 17 million paying subscriber mark. Within a few months, the provider was able to gain another four million users – despite the recent price increase.
Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini said in making the announcement that the success reflected the increasing global popularity of anime. At the same time, they want to continue to expand the platform in the future and offer fans even more comprehensive anime-related offers in the future.
According to the company, investments have been made in recent months in particular to expand the library, international synchronizations and additional content such as games and music. Crunchyroll is also increasingly relying on partnerships to make anime more accessible worldwide.
Until May 21, 2026, Crunchyroll is offering its subscriptions at a discount via the Prime Video Channel, among others: The “Fan” subscription costs 1.99 euros per month for three months, while the “Mega Fan” subscription is available for 2.99 euros per month.
