Forget Zelda Ocarina of Time, this stunning remake of Twilight Princess could change everything

The hype around a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2 has been rising for weeks, fueled by leaks which speak of an XXL return of the Nintendo 64 episode. But while everyone is looking towards Hyrule 1998, another unofficial project is turning heads: a stunning remake of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princessrecreated by fans at the heart of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Visually, this mod looks like a next gen version and raises a question that players have been asking for years.

According to GamingBible, Nintendo would already be very annoyed internally by the leaks around Ocarina of Time, planned for Switch 2 alongside other retro projects. Except that the community is starting to wonder if it is not Twilight Princess which deserves as a priority a real remake, after a simple HD remaster on Wii U in 2016. Between spectacular mod, game not found on Switch and rumors of a return in 2026, this Zelda Twilight Princess remake dream could well reshuffle all the cards.

Can this FFVII Rebirth-style Zelda Twilight Princess remake steal the show from Ocarina of Time?

The modder JasniMods replace in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth the Cloud and Aerith duo by Link and Zelda version Twilight Princess. Reworked 3D models, detailed textures, dark lighting: the artistic direction of the 2006 Zelda fits perfectly with the realistic tone of Rebirth. In combat as in cinematics, we really have the impression of watching a modern remake of Twilight Princess rather than a simple skin swap. This level of finish, obtained without a AAA budget, serves as a striking demonstration of what an official project could offer on Nintendo Switch 2.

Ocarina of Time has already benefited from a real remake on Nintendo 3DS then a return via Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack, which makes it easy to discover today. Conversely, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princessreleased in 2006 on GameCube and Wii then remastered in 2016 on Wii U, is completely absent from the Switch as from the future Nintendo Switch 2. Concretely, without an old Wii or Wii U, it’s impossible to play it legally. Gold Twilight Princess is a perfect candidate for remake: introduction too slow, wolf phases sometimes heavy, aging interface. The complete decompilation of the GameCube version and the 4K texture packs created by fans clearly show that the community is waiting for only one thing: to finally see it again in modern conditions.
