For the 20th anniversary: “Fairy Tail” returns after more than nine years

Over nine years after the end of “Fairy Tail,” a new manga chapter will be published in a few months – in keeping with the series’ 20th anniversary.

New adventure

The new story is expected to appear on August 5, 2026 in the combined issue 36-37/2026 of the “Weekly Shonen Magazine”. Manga creator Hiro Mashima commented on the announcement saying:

»Even though the manga ended some time ago, the fact that we can still celebrate it like this is entirely thanks to the unwavering support of all readers.

From this year to next year, we are preparing many new merchandise and events, so please look forward to it. Let’s celebrate the 20th anniversary together! I’m absolutely thrilled!”

In addition to this news, there is a separate anniversary website and a special promo video, which is accompanied by the music of FUNKIST’s first anime opening “Snow Fairy”. You can find the latter at the bottom of this article.

The manga series “Fairy Tail” originally appeared in “Weekly Shonen Magazine” from August 2006 to July 2017 and was compiled into a total of 63 volumes. The anime adaptation counts 328 episodes as well as several specials and films.

The sequel series “Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest” debuted in June 2018, with Mashima working with artist Atsuo Ueda.
