EA lays off at several studios after Battlefield 6 launch

Electronic Arts is going through a new phase of internal restructuring. Several studios involved in the development of the Battlefield franchise have recently been hit by a wave of layoffs. The information was revealed by several reports relayed in the video game industry. The Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect and Motive teams would be affected by these job cuts.

A restructuring that affects several Battlefield studios

According to initial reports, the layoffs are part of a broader reorganization of the teams working on the Battlefield franchise. A report suggests that this decision comes as part of a restructuring linked to the continued development of the Battlefield 6 service. The staff concerned would belong to several studios which participate in the development and monitoring of the series.

The report also states that an unknown number of developers were affected by these job cuts. For the moment, Electronic Arts has not communicated official figures concerning the exact extent of this wave of layoffs. The teams involved have been participating in the development of Battlefield for several years, whether for content creation, updates or technical aspects of the game.

Battlefield 6 didn’t keep all its promises

Released in October 2025, Battlefield 6 had raised a lot of expectations among players. Many fans hoped that this episode would revive the franchise after several difficult years. The game’s initial launch was well received. However, player interest has reportedly diminished over the weeks following its release. According to several industry analyses, the game’s updates have failed to maintain the expected enthusiasm. The evolution of the title would therefore not have fully met the expectations of a particularly demanding community.

Concerns already raised by the developers

A few months before the announcement of these layoffs, several sources were already raising concerns among developers working on Battlefield. Some team members have reportedly expressed doubts regarding the game’s roadmap and planned future updates. Each new update of the game was then seen as decisive for the future of the franchise. The pressure around the project therefore remained particularly high.

A difficult context for Electronic Arts

These layoffs take place in a broader context of transformation within Electronic Arts. In late 2025, the company’s shareholders approved a major transaction valued at $55 billion. This operation provides for the acquisition of the publisher by a consortium including the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

At the same time, the video game industry continues to experience a period of significant restructuring. Many studios have made workforce reductions in recent years in order to adapt their development costs.

For Electronic Arts, the objective seems to be to stabilize the Battlefield franchise while preparing the next evolutions of the series. For the moment, the publisher has not provided additional details regarding the layoffs or the future organization of the Battlefield studios.
