Funny adaptation of Ghost
With KilnDouble Fine deviates greatly from what he is used to doing, since it is a multiplayer brawler party-game, but it retains the studio’s touch thanks to its very original concept: that of making us embody pottery. Finally, rather a spirit which will come to engulf itself in a piece of pottery, which can take the shape you wish.
And the shape of your vase, cup or other bowl will be important in the gameplay. Each pottery will be stored in a specific box (small, medium or large): a small creation will be able to sneak around more easily, a large pot will do more damage with area attacks… And this with 8 possible shapes for each size (so 24 types in total), each of them having its own skill.
Derek Bland, who manages this project, explains the choice to focus on pottery:
“ The pottery aspect also attracts people who wouldn’t necessarily want to get into a multiplayer game. Some people just want to try making pottery. And if we can get them, little by little, to say to themselves: “Okay, now I want to hit someone with my pot,” that’s perfect. We didn’t want the transition from creation to combat to be too abrupt. »
But let’s talk about the gameplay. Here you will play in 4 vs 4 matches after taking a tour in The Wedge, the central HUB of the game in which you will find the different modes. In Quench mode, your goal will be to pour water into the opposing oven.
And don’t think that you need a team made up of big vases here to achieve victory more easily. Because the greater your water capacity, the lower your HP will be. It is also possible to slow down the opposing team by confronting them directly, or by using the scenery, like sponges that can be soaked in water to create walls. Each map will be inspired by the Greek pantheon, from Athena to Hermes:
“ We have given each ancient god a distinct personality. For example, Hermes has a map located in its distribution center, where conveyor belts continually ship packages that should be avoided. And that of Dionysus resembles a dance hall, with a floor in the center: as soon as a player places one foot on a tile, he is forced to dance, thus creating a battlefield as chaotic as it is hilarious, where some fight while others start dancing. »
Kiln will be available during spring 2026 on PC, Xbox Series (and Game Pass), but also on PS5. A beta is expected to take place soon, and the game will be updated after release with new modes and other customization options.
