The Cyberpunk 2 project has reached an essential milestone in 2025. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the game is now in active pre-production, with teams already well established. “Cyberpunk 2 now has 135 employees working full-time on the sequel,” detailed Piotr Nielubowicz, financial director of the studio.
This increase in power gives hope for a smoother production than that of the first opus, marked by delays, bugs and a chaotic launch.
Large-scale production in 2026
The studio plans to accelerate development from the end of 2026. According to its forecasts, more than 400 developers should work full time on Cyberpunk 2 from this period.
This schedule nevertheless implies a prolonged wait for players. “Large-scale production is expected to begin in late 2026, early 2027,” the report said. CD Projekt RED insists, however: this time, the game will only be released when it is actually ready.
A release postponed to… 2028 at best
If we are to believe the studio’s internal projections, the release of Cyberpunk 2 cannot take place before 2028. In reality, several analysts are instead counting on a window between 2029 and 2031.
One user sums up the opinion of many fans: “The game will be released when it’s ready, whether it’s in 2029, 2031 or 2032. It’s better than releasing it in 2028 with half the promised features missing.”
The hope of a scandal-free launch
After the launch fiasco of Cyberpunk 2077, the studio wants to reassure. With a critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion and sales exceeding 35 million copies, CD Projekt RED has a second chance that should not be wasted. “I hope they add everything they promised for the first one,” hopes another player on social media.
