Gearbox Software is offering a new Community Challenge in Borderlands 4. Players can get a free cosmetic skin called Luck of the Kairish, inspired by the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. However, this reward will not be distributed automatically. The community will need to achieve a specific goal before the end of the event for the SHiFT code to unlock this skin to be released.
Borderlands 4 offers a community challenge to unlock a free skin
As with previous events, Gearbox uses the SHiFT system to distribute rewards to players. This new challenge asks the entire community to collect a very large number of legendary items in the game.
Between March 12 and March 15, players will collectively need to collect 1.5 million legendary weapons and items. If this goal is achieved, Gearbox will release a SHiFT code to redeem the Luck of the Kairish skin for free. Players will then need to visit Gearbox’s official SHiFT website to enter the code and receive the reward in their account.
A St. Patrick’s Day-inspired skin for Vault Hunters
The Luck of the Kairish skin adopts an aesthetic clearly inspired by St. Patrick’s Day. The outfits feature green and gold colors, as well as clover patterns. According to the visuals presented by Gearbox, several characters in the game will benefit from this new appearance.
Vault Hunters Vex, Amon and Harlowe appear in particular with a new red hairstyle corresponding to the theme of the event. For the moment, it has not been confirmed whether the new C4SH character, introduced in the next narrative content, will also receive a version of this skin.
The event is available on all platforms
The Community Challenge is available on all platforms where Borderlands 4 is available. Players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S can all participate in overall challenge progression. Once the challenge is successful, the SHiFT code will allow all players to redeem the skin on their account.
The exact validity period of the code has not yet been confirmed. However, most SHiFT codes used for cosmetic items in Borderlands 4 generally remain active for several years.
Borderlands 4 continues to add content in 2026
Since its release in September 2025, Borderlands 4 has received several significant updates. Two Bounty Packs have already been released, as well as a free update that introduced an invincible boss called Bloomreaper. The game also recently added a new gear rarity called Pearlescent, which gives players a new category of loot to hunt for.
Gearbox also confirmed the upcoming arrival of a new story pack titled Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. This expansion is due out on March 26 and will take players to the ruins of the moon Elpis, with the return of several familiar characters from the series.
