Battlefield 6 RedSec: gameplay leaked before release, what we know about the free Battle Royale

The surprise will not last until the big day. Only a few hours before its official deployment, the free Battle Royale mode RedSec of Battlefield 6 is revealed in advance through a viral leak. It was on X (formerly Twitter) that the clip was broadcast, revealing two minutes of intense action: pure gameplay captured in good quality, obviously from a finalized version of the game.

This mode, announced for months as one of the pillars of Electronic Arts’ new multiplayer strategy, was initially scheduled to be launched on October 28 at 4 p.m. (Paris time), simultaneously with Season 1 of the game and update 1.1.1.0. The calendar remains unchanged. But the surprise was over.

RedSec gameplay: tension, loot, and furious vehicles

The sequence shared by content creator EXZEDZ is crystal clear: “2-minute gameplay (REDSEC)! FREE BATTLE ROYALE. You’re welcome…” A laconic, but effective formula. Because behind these few words hides a dive into the DNA of Battlefield 6revisited with Battle Royale sauce.

From the first seconds, we see the players parachuted onto the map, scanning the ground in search of weapons, gadgets and equipment. Then everything accelerates: violent exchanges of fire, airstrikes, vehicles launched at full speed into urban areas, all under the permanent threat of a deadly zone which tirelessly closes.

This gameplay loop, well known to those familiar with the genre, takes on a particular dimension here thanks to the mechanics specific to Battlefield : environmental destruction, advanced motorization and squad management. All in a polished visual atmosphere, where each element of the decor can become a strategic lever.

RedSec wants to impose its paw against Warzone and other giants of the genre

For Electronic Arts, RedSec is not a simple bonus mode: it is a manifesto. A direct response to the domination of Warzone, PUBG or Apex Legends, in the free and competitive Battle Royale field. And to achieve this, the teams of Battlefield Studios have focused on several differentiating levers.

First, the structure of the game is entirely based on the notion of squad: one hundred players are divided into twenty-five groups of four, with a real incentive for cooperation. Each character class has specific attributes and gadgets, which you will need to know how to combine to hope to dominate the battlefield. Added to this are communication, resuscitation and redeployment systems to strengthen team synergy.

Then the card itself is a character in its own right. Designed to encourage confrontations on different scales, it is full of strategic points of interest, closed areas, clear lines of fire and destructible buildings. An approach that allows you to transform each fight into an opportunity for improvisation.

Finally, RedSec is enriched with dynamic missions, generated during the game. These secondary objectives offer useful rewards – rare weapons, vehicles or redeployment tools – but involve leaving your comfort zone, at the risk of falling into ambushes.

A release under tension, but full of promise

If today’s leak short-circuited the initial communication plan, it will at least have made it possible to measure the wait around RedSec. The first reactions, although limited, already welcome a return to the tactical sources of Battlefieldwithin a contemporary and demanding format.

This Tuesday, October 28 at 4 p.m., the mode will be available for free on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. No purchase of the base game will be required to try it, confirming EA’s desire to attract a new generation of players.

It now remains to be seen whether RedSec will keep its promises over time, or whether it will just be a flash in the pan in the ultra-competitive Battle Royale arena. But one thing is certain: the test is ambitious, and the playing field is ready.
