There Battlefield 6 season 1 was to launch a new era for the franchise. But as soon as the update is available, first criticisms were poured outall focused on the map Blackwell Fieldsa new multiplayer environment set in Californian hills tinted with red and orange.
The visual atmosphere was not enough to seduce. Many players are crying disaster. “I can’t count the number of times I appear on this map and immediately see enemies capturing points,” laments one user. And he’s not the only one to complain: “You get shot at from all sides, without any respite. Players can appear and shoot at you immediately.”
Hell for soldiers…and pilots
One of the major problems pointed out concerns lack of shelter on the map, which makes any progression extremely risky. “I play engineer and I destroy armored vehicles, but on this map, it’s impossible to take cover without getting shot at from all sides,” explains another player. Result: only snipers seem to find what they need in these open spaces. “The large open areas make it a sniper’s paradise, and all other classes are at a complete disadvantage.”
Even pilots cannot escape frustration: some say planes can be shot down even before they take offdue to the location and design of the spawn areas. The sarcastic comments are multiplying: “It’s great!”, quips a player on Reddit. “I was hoping for more maps where helicopters are useless.” Another continues: “No no, they are perfect garage helicopters.” And to conclude with a scathing dig: “It’s not helicopter season yet.”
A visual atmosphere considered stifling
Beyond the gameplay, it is also thegraphic atmosphere which is targeted. The dominance of red-orange hues considerably hampers visibility during clashes. A player on Steam sums it up: “I played a game of Breakthrough which was okay and one of Conquest which was a disaster.” Before adding: “The visibility is already so bad in this game, no matter the settings used, the red/orange tint of this map is a disaster.”
These criticisms revive the debate on the excessive card size in Battlefield 6, often considered ill-suited to game modes with reduced objectives. And although a few isolated voices welcome the cinematic dimension of Blackwell Fields, the general opinion remains very negative.
An expected update… and a new map on November 18
For now, EA and Battlefield Studios have not announced a fix for Blackwell Fields. But the developers’ history gives hope for a quick response to the discontent. Many adjustments have already been made since the launch of Battlefield 6, such as changing a controversial skin or returning Conquest mode to old settings.
Dissatisfied players can also turn to the next map, Eastwoodplanned for November 18. Less orange, hopefully.
