The Japanese film and television production company Toei has opened a brand new division and is actively entering the video game market for the first time – with several titles announced. We summarize.
Own games division
With the new label “Toei Games”, the renowned company is taking its first step into the games industry and will position this area as another central pillar alongside film, television and events.
While the initial focus is on PC games with releases via Steam, consoles such as PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox will follow later. The further strategic direction is certainly a surprise.
Instead of relying on well-known brands from its own portfolio, Toei wants to develop completely new IPs – with the aim of establishing its own stories on a global level and in this way opening up new target groups.
First games already revealed
The brand development is supported, among others, by Studio Kairosoft, which is responsible for designing the visual identity – and the first three projects have already been presented.
These include the 3D adventure mystery game “KILLA”, the 2D dark fantasy adventure “HINO” and the top-down adventure “DEBUG NEPHEMEE”, all of which already have their own Steam pages including further information and first trailers.
It remains to be seen whether the planned strategy with completely new brands will pay off in the long term. In the meantime you can take a look at some pictures below these lines. Please let us know what you think about it.
