Animal Crossing has always remained faithful to Nintendo consoles. Impossible to play it elsewhere without going through circuitous, often complex solutions. But a recent technical advance changes the situation. An unofficial port of the original game now allows it to be played directly on PC, without emulation.
An unofficial port that changes everything
This project is based on a decompilation of the Animal Crossing game released on GameCube. Concretely, the game files have been transformed into code readable by a computer. This method allows the game to run natively on PC. Unlike emulation, it is no longer a question of reproducing the behavior of a console, but of adapting the game to a new platform. The result provides a smoother and more flexible experience, especially on devices like the Steam Deck.
A better experience than emulation
Until now, players could already launch Animal Crossing on PC via emulators. But this solution had certain limitations. With this port, several improvements are visible. The resolution is higher, the performance is more stable and the game becomes more flexible. The project also opens the door to modifications. Mods could enrich the experience in the future, by adding content or modifying certain aspects of the game.
Fans seduced by this new version
The community quickly reacted to this development. On the networks, the first feedback shows real enthusiasm. Some players see this as an opportunity to experience the original game for the first time. As one user puts it, “the first game [qu’ils] will buy” on Steam Deck. This new accessibility allows part of the public to rediscover a striking title.
An alternative while waiting for a new game
Despite this enthusiasm, it is not an official release. Nintendo has not announced any PC ports. However, this project could meet players’ expectations. The next installment in the series has not yet been revealed. In the meantime, this PC version represents a new way to enjoy Animal Crossing, with new possibilities.
