An Internet user thinks he has found why Monster Hunter Wilds is so slow on PC, and it could be linked to DLC

More DLC, more FPS

The user’s Reddit post has spread like wildfire over the past few hours on the Internet, a sign that the public really wants this PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds may one day run properly. After carrying out some tests between his account and a friend’s account on the same PC, the user realized that performance changed from one game to another.

Yesterday, upon resuming the game (after a short break to play another game, which will have a strange importance later), I launched MHWilds and two things immediately struck me: first, my saves had disappeared; then, after restarting the intro, the frames per second were perfectly normal. I restarted the game about ten times. I cleared the cache (of the game and the driver), deleted the configuration file, tested different settings, from minimum to maximum, with and without DLSS: everything worked correctly. For what ? How is this possible? First observation: on Steam, I was connected to my friend’s account […] I log back into my account, launch the game and… the FPS drops are back. Stable, whatever the parameters. Well, I delete the save, I redo exactly the same scenario, I redo the intro/tutorial, I go to the hub… and there, the performance is catastrophic. I log back into my friend’s account… and everything is normal. »

The only difference to note here was that of the number of DLC obtained by his friend. On the latter’s account, all the DLCs were available, while the user in question did not have any on his account.

After some tests, these DLCs would indeed be those which would improve (by mistake) the performance of the gameand quite significantly. In short, the more DLC you have, the smoother the game would be on your machine. Which would of course be unintentional on Capcom’s partbut if this is proven, there is no doubt that the subject will be talked about. The theory still remains to be proven, and the experts at Digital Foundry are reportedly verifying all of this.

Capcom has not yet commented on the matter, but if the problems in the PC version are resolved soon, the publisher will undoubtedly be able to thank the person who made this discovery.
