South Park, Squads of 5, Free Battle Pass… All the new features of update 39.20 deployed this January 9


After this winter break which lasted almost 3 weeks, it is high time for the developers to offer us a new big content update for this first season of chapter seven, while it is supposed to last almost 2 more months. Here are the new features to remember for this v39.20 update.

South Park is coming

After devoting an entire mini-season to the Simpson phenomenon, Fortnite invites us to experience the start of the year under the banner of another animation phenomenon, South Park, with a mini-event Creations of Chaosavailable from January 9 to February 5. Kenny, Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Butters arrive in the Battle Royale with lots of new items and cosmetics in store. Each skin can be purchased in the store, or included in a bundle for 4000 V-Bucks. And to celebrate the arrival of the animated series in the gargantuan game from Epic Games, the respective studios have decided to offer a mini-episode in homage to the update, a few hours before its deployment, which you can find above.

A a brand new mini-Chaos Battle Pass has also been deployed, with several completely free rewards and also several quests to complete over the duration of the event. Available without any V-Bucksthe free pass will allow you to recover 13 rewards on the theme of South Park such as a Cheesy Poofs rocket emote, the CRED Backpack backpack accessory, the Terrance and Phillip pickaxe and more. And by completing all the quests, you can get the Imaginationland Airplane Glider.

New gameplay features

This update 39.20 allows Fortnite to introduce two new mechanics specific to this event South Park. Already, it is now possible for you to restore life points, heal your allies or inflict damage on enemies thanks to Cheesy Poofs. You will also be able to automatically return to play after an elimination using the Kenny’s Respawn Token (Single Use). This generates the disappearance (temporary?) of the Self-Resuscitation Device.

Finally, you will be able even for the first time control the movement of the storm by recovering in the sky the Stick of Truth (also single use). This will take the form of a Rift Anomaly that will shrink the storm immediately so that it surrounds you for the final circle.

Significant new gameplay features that will have to be judged with controller in hand for their slightly cheated nature (or not depending on taste), but which should be temporary, just like the brand new long-awaited game mode and which will get people talking, the arrival of Squads of 5 players.

This update therefore adds a fairly anticipated game mode, the Squads in teams of five players. You will now find the possibility of creating a larger team, in addition to the traditional modes Solo, Duo, Trio and Sections of 4 players. The rest of the content of the game does not seem to change, but it should provide a lot of strategy and draw the cards for those already accustomed to other configurations.

The map disappears visibly

With the arrival of the exclusive collaboration dedicated to South Parkthe map changes and separates from its beautiful snow dress, as you can see below. Some changes should be noted, such as the Traveler’s Cradle moving on the map, the appearance of a fault just above, but also and above all Wonkeeland which is transformed into Cartmanland during the collaboration.

CartmanLand now offers several rideable attractionslike Chaos Blast, Journey to the Center of the Earth or the very elegant Pi Pi’s Urineworld. At least it’s on theme.

New cosmetics

These new features are brought to us thanks to the well-known leakers Hypex and FireMonkey.

Upcoming cosmetics

This presentation shows you the cosmetics unlocked in this update and which will either be available in the store or in the free battle pass. Note the presence of a new character, Daigo Elite Soldier, who should strengthen the lore soon. The skin would be exclusive to the upcoming Ranked Cup.

Super styles for the battle pass

The update on January 9 coincided with the arrival of new styles for the battle pass outfits, for those who have significantly exceeded base level 100. You will be able to unlock these styles with new levels reached. Note that you start unlocking these sets at levels 102 then 108, 122 etc. In particular, you will have to level up twice for the first super-style. We will find the Palm Walk, Sour Oasis and Trendy Black styles for the five outfits concerned.

In brief

  • Among the other announcements, note the disappearance of the map Stranger Things in Blitz mode, just like the collaboration with Bleach. New Blitz card rotation includes Crested Haven and Return of Asteria
  • As well as the addition of the last three pages of the OG battle pass in progress for 21 rewards. You have until March 18 to complete it. The Ice King event will also take place on February 15 at 8 p.m.
