Every day since December 18, the Epic Games Store has spoiled its users with a new game to download for free for 24 hours. This December 27, the store is highlighting a little-known but critically acclaimed gem: Cassette Beastsa stunning reinvention of the Pokémon-like genre with original gameplay and striking artistic direction.
According to the official announcement, “Cassette Beasts is now available for free, but be careful, you only have 24 hours to add it to your library permanently.” The offer will end this Saturday, December 28 at 5 p.m.
An original RPG between retro, fusion and audio monsters
Developed by independent studio Bytten Studio, Cassette Beasts invites players to explore the mysterious island of New Wirral. The atmosphere oscillates between 90s nostalgia and modern mechanics, as a journalist sums it up perfectly: “Cassette Beasts revisits the monster collector genre with an approach that is as nostalgic as it is ingenious.”
Instead of the usual pokéballs, the game universe is based on a new idea: “Far from the classics of the genre where we capture animals in balls, here, the concept is based on a unique mechanic: the use of audio cassette players.” By recording the creatures onto magnetic tapes, the player can literally transform into a monster to fight.

Where Cassette Beasts What really shines is its fusion mechanism. Unlike other RPGs of the genre, the player can combine any creatures to create a new one. “The game features a dynamic fusion system that allows you to combine two monster forms to create a completely unique and animated new entity.”
The result? Impressive tactical freedom, reinforced by the fine balancing of elemental types. “According to the developers, this system can generate more than 14,000 different combinations.”

In addition to its generous single-player, the game offers multiplayer features, with local co-op and online combat. It is even possible to exchange your creatures via the famous cassettes and participate in raids against enemy fusions.
