Nioh 3 comes to PS5 for free with save transfer, don’t miss it

The Nioh series is preparing to make its comeback. The third opus of the samurai action RPG was unveiled during the Game Awards with an enticing promise: a free demo on PS5 and PC from January 29, 2026. The information did not go unnoticed, especially since it will be possible to keep your progress in the full game expected a week later.

Scheduled for February 6, 2026, Nioh 3 intends to close a cult trilogy, renowned for its intense clashes and its demands worthy of FromSoftware games. This time again, Tecmo Koei is offering early access through a demo that is almost like a playable prologue.

A free demo as an appetizer on PS5 and PC

The publisher’s official account announced the news bluntly: “As shown during #TheGameAwards, the final demo of #Nioh3 will be available for download on January 29, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Steam. You will be able to transfer your save data to the full version, which will be released on February 6, 2026.”

As with the previous two installments, this trial version is much more than just a preview. It offers a complete gaming experience with combat, in-depth exploration and the ability to invite a friend for cooperative play. On the other hand, no cross-platform compatibility is planned, and the Xbox is once again put aside.

A gameplay between tradition and challenge inspired by Elden Ring

The studio left nothing to chance. The official synopsis promises a thrilling adventure in a mythological Japan: “In the latest installment of the dark samurai action role-playing game series ‘Nioh’, you will use both samurai and ninja fighting styles in your battles against fearsome yokai while exploring a thrilling open world.”

Fans of Ghost of Yōtei or Elden Ring should find a dark atmosphere, a nervous combat system, and formidable enemies. The parallel is obvious, and assumed, with old bosses like Takezo the Unequaled, who left their mark with their difficulty.

Maintained progression, maximum tension

One of the strengths of this demo is the retention of saves. Once the full game is available on February 6, players won’t have to start their journey again. This process, already used on Nioh and Nioh 2, reinforces the interest in diving into it without delay.

The game will test the nerves of fans, but will also once again offer a dense world to explore, with intertwined historical and supernatural references. With a heroine thirsty for revenge and an ever more brutal atmosphere, Nioh 3 promises to be one of the most anticipated titles of 2026.

A notable absence on Xbox, but welcome cooperation

Despite the enthusiasm, a shadow remains: Nioh 3 will not be launched on Xbox, a decision which had already been made for the previous opuses. On the other hand, the PS5 version will include an online cooperation mode, allowing you to share the experience with a friend, and to take on the most difficult challenges together.

If the full game keeps its promises, this demo could well mark the start of a new success for the Tecmo Koei franchise, faithful to its DNA while opening up to a wider audience thanks to its free accessibility.
