Sony could finally realize the idea of a true autonomous portable console, after years of unsuccessful attempts. Known under the code name Canis, the PS6 Portable would be a device capable of launching PS5 games locally, without streaming, while ensuring PS4 compatibility. A rumor that became serious after a leak relayed on December 5, 2025 by Moore’s Law Is Dead and several specialized media.
Developers would have received precise instructions: optimize their games for a low consumption mode on PS5, in order to prepare for the arrival of the portable console. An anonymous developer summed up the situation: “It’s becoming obvious that Low Power Mode is a Trojan horse to prepare support for the PS6 Portable before launch. And they seemed downright annoyed at the low number of developers supporting it directly so far.”
A technical sheet designed for mobility
The leaks suggest a device balanced between performance and portability. On the processor side, we would be talking about a Zen 6c 3 nm with four cores, supported by two additional cores for the system. The GPU would be based on the RDNA 5 architecture, with 12 to 20 computing units, clocked between 1.6 and 2.0 GHz. All accompanied by 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM on a 128-bit bus.
The goal would be to achieve half the power of the PS5, while limiting consumption to 15 watts. It’s less than a home console, but sufficient for serious mobile use, with controlled compromises on resolution or certain visual effects.
A true console/PC hybrid design
The PS6 Portable would not be an accessory like the PS Portal, but a complete machine. The first information speaks of a touch screen, a USB-C port, a microSD slot, a slot for M.2 SSD, two microphones, haptic vibrations… In short, a real gaming mini-PC designed around the PlayStation universe.
The USB-C port would allow the console to be connected to an external screen for “docked” use, like a Nintendo Switch. But unlike the latter, the console would offer native gameplay, without the cloud, for PS5 and PS4 titles.
Date, price, release: what the leaks suggest
According to cross sources, production would begin in mid-2027, with a release planned for the fall of the same year. The estimated price would be between 399 and 499 euros, i.e. a highly strategic mid-range positioning for Sony, which would thus target mobile gamers without sacrificing the console experience.
No official announcement has been made yet, and details could change. But with such a level of precision in the documents mentioned, the arrival of an ambitious PS6 Portable now seems much more than a simple fan fantasy.
