The Witcher: CD Projekt RED reconfirms the release of a new trilogy in 6 years thanks to Unreal Engine 5

The future of the saga The Witcher becomes clearer. During a presentation of CD Projekt RED’s financial results, Michal Nowakowski, co-CEO of the studio, confirmed that the upcoming trilogy would launch over a six-year period. Although The Witcher IV will not land before 2026, the following opuses should follow one another more quickly.

The studio is banking on Unreal Engine 5 to reduce development times and guarantee better technical stability from the start. “We’ve been using UE5 for The Witcher 4 for four years now, and we’re very happy with the results.”

The UE5 engine, the cornerstone of the new trilogy

This technological choice seems to be proving its worth. CD Projekt RED is working closely with the Epic Games teams to adapt the engine to the immensity of the Witcher universe. “I think you saw some of that for yourself during our tech demo at Unreal Fest a few months ago, and we’re really happy with the results – we’ve said this before, but I’m always happy to say it again – and we’re happy with the way the engine is evolving thanks to the experts on the Epic team, and how we’re learning how to make it work in a huge open-world game, like TW4 is supposed to be.”

A massive team already in place for TW4

To date, nearly 450 developers are working on The Witcher 4an impressive figure which shows the priority given to this project. Despite this mobilization, no announcement is planned during the Game Awards 2025. A strong signal, which underlines that CDPR now prefers caution to media haste.

The studio has also strengthened its ranks recently, notably with the arrival of Karel Kolmann, a veteran of Warhorse Studios, as senior quest designer.

A 6-year ambition for The Witcher 5 and 6

The ambition is clear: release The Witcher 4, then the following two episodes, TW5 And TW6within six years. “In a way, yes, I think the next games should be released in a shorter time frame – as we’ve already stated, our plan is still to release the full trilogy over a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we’re planning a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6, etc.”

CD Projekt RED relies on an optimized organization, robust technical tools, and a long-term vision to avoid repeating errors. Cyberpunk 2077. The appointment is therefore made: The Witcher IV will lead the way in 2026, with a sequel faster than ever in the studio’s history.
