Epic Games will authorize the Unity engine to create games within Fortnite

Unity wants to reconquer the market

But before moving on to this collaboration, Unity took advantage of its Unite 2026 to make some announcements which should help studios and developers work on this engine. The first of these concerns a new tool that will make it easier to carry out ports and multiplatform releaseswhich is timely as the industry moves away from exclusives. This will also facilitate the development of mobile games to port them to iOS and Android.

Then, Unity announces that it has signed a contract for several games with 2K Games. The first game that will benefit from it is PGA Tour 2K25and more precisely its Nintendo Switch 2 version, in particular in order to show that the engine is ready for this machine. The port in question will be available on the Nintendo console from February 6, 2026.

Fortnite opens up a little more

But the most surprising announcement of the lot remains that of a partnership between Unity and Epic Games. Two rival companies, which are now hand in hand thanks to Fortnite. It will soon be possible to port Unity games within the catch-all that is the Epic Games game.

This opening also comes from Unity, which opened the floodgates around its commerce platform on numerous supports, allowing developers on Unreal Engine to more easily manage the management of their games (in terms of prices, promotions, etc.) on different platforms. In return, Unity games can be published in Fortnite.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, said:

Just like in the early days of the web, we believe that companies must collaborate to build an open, interoperable and equitable metaverse. By working with Unity, we hope to help developers create games, reach a wider audience, and celebrate personal victories. »

This should be possible from next year, without a more precise date at the moment. A fairly significant step in opening up the ecosystem of Fortnite.
