Recently available as a free demo on PS5, Windswept is a 2D platform game that fully embraces its retro inspiration. Developed by the young studio WeatherFell and edited by Top Hat Studiosit presents itself as “a love letter to a period of gaming where collectathon platformers reigned supreme, starting over was the norm, and players had only a game manual to guide them.”
Far from endless tutorials or automatic help, the game takes an assumed opposite approach. “You will learn all the skills in the first stage of the game, after which you will be left to your own devices”warns the description. And that’s exactly what makes it so charming: a well-balanced difficulty, a colorful universe, and mechanics to master step by step.
Two animal heroes and over 40 levels to explore
In Windsweptyou take turns embodying Marblesan intrepid duck, and Checkersa clever turtle. Each character has distinct skills, and you can switch between them to overcome obstacles. The game encourages creativity and exploration. “Changing leaders will give you access to a whole new set of actions to use and master. Take your time, and you’ll eventually get the hang of it…”
With more than 40 levels to complete, objects to collect, hidden challenges, and an assumed pixelated visual style, Windswept is a condensed homage to classics like Donkey Kong 64 or Banjo-Kazooie. Each area offers its own surprises, and the game knows how to reward experimentation.
And for those who think they are going too fast: “The journey home will be difficult, and you’ll need to persevere until you master the game. But for those who find it easy, there are plenty of hidden challenges along the way! There’s no wrong way to play Windswept.”
A demo available for free on PS5… and everywhere else

Released just a few days ago, Windswept marks the very first game from WeatherFell studio, which has made it its mission to revive the spirit of old-school platform games. The editor Top Hat Studiosalready known for original indie titles like Kaichu Or Labyrinth of the Demon Kinghere accompanies a project that is both demanding, simple to handle, and particularly endearing. A great opportunity to try a different game during blockbuster season, and perhaps fall in love with good old 2D gameplay again.
