PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers are entitled to a nice surprise to end the year. While the full list of games for the month of December will be revealed on the 10th, two major titles have already leaked: a blockbuster from Rockstar, and a big name in Japanese fighting games.
It’s now official: Red Dead Redemption, in its PS5 version, will join the PS Plus Extra catalog from December 2. The 2023 version released on PS4 will automatically benefit from a free upgrade for all players who purchased it. An elegant way to offer fans an optimized version without going back to checkout.
But above all, the game will be directly included in the subscription, a strong gesture on the part of Sony to end the year on a spectacular note.
Rockstar draws RDR on PS5, with free update
Rockstar has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption owners on PS4 will “receive the upgrade to the PS5 version for free.” This highly anticipated port will finally allow players to rediscover the American West in 60 native fps and 4K resolution. This is not a complete remake, but a technical adaptation which significantly improves playing comfort.
The release is scheduled for December 2, two weeks before the arrival of the other games of the month in the PS Plus catalog. A logical shift, which will allow RDR to take center stage from the start of the month.
This is not the first time that Sony has relied on a big title to launch the month. But the inclusion of a Rockstar game on PS5 in the subscription, so quickly after its port, marks a real turning point in the service’s strategy.
Soulcalibur III, return of a monument to versus fighting
The second game revealed is a classic: Soulcalibur III. This iconic PlayStation 2 title will arrive in a backwards compatible version on PS5 and PS4. Already announced since September, its arrival for December is now no longer in doubt.
With its refined combat system, its striking artistic direction and its cult characters, Soulcalibur III is a monument of the genre. Its presence in the Premium catalog will satisfy nostalgic fans while attracting a new generation of players.
PS Plus Extra and Premium games are usually available on the third Tuesday of the month. The calendar therefore provides for the other games to be put online on Tuesday, December 16, after the full official announcement on the 10th.
