German cinema release of the original anime “Scarlet” postponed

Sony Pictures recently announced that the German theatrical release of the upcoming original film “Scarlet” (Japanese: “Hateshi naki Scarlet”) has been postponed to a later date. We summarize all the details below.

Five weeks later

“Scarlet” will therefore not be shown in German cinemas from January 29, 2026 as previously planned, but only from March 5, 2026, five weeks later. A reason for the postponement was not given.

Studio Chizu is responsible for producing the film, with Mamoru Hosoda (“The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”) directing and also writing the original story and screenplay.

The main roles of the Japanese voice cast include Mana Ashida (Ookami-sama in “Lonely Castle in the Mirror”) as Scarlet and Masaki Okada as Hijiri. The Japanese cinema premiere will take place on November 21, 2025.
