European subscribers to the service Nintendo Switch Online had a nice surprise this week: a cult Japanese role-playing game has become free for 7 dayswithout the need for expansion pack usually required for some offers. The game in question, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeanceis one of the most praised RPGs of 2021.
Initially released exclusively on Nintendo Switch, this title signed Atlus and edited by Sega received an average rating of 84 on Metacriticas well as a nomination to Game Awards in the “best role-playing game” category. It has passed more than 2 million copiesproof of solid success despite the shadow cast by its sister series, Persona.
Accessible to all subscribers… in Europe only
The good news is that all users of the Nintendo Switch Online service can benefit from it, without subscription exception. It is not necessary to have subscribed to the additional pack. The bad news? The offer is for now reserved for Europe. It has not yet been launched in North America, but this could change in the coming days, based on previous similar cases.
The offer runs until October 22date after which the game will be automatically deactivated if you have not purchased it. The save data will however be retained, which allows you to resume the game later in the event of purchase.
50 hours of play in 7 days: a real challenge
Shin Megami Tensei V is known for its richness and depth. The game offers an adventure where you play a demigod evolving in a Tokyo devastatedcaught in a mystical war between angels and demons. The demanding turn-based battles require thought and strategy.
But be careful: the average playing time to complete the adventure exceeds 50 hours. In other words, to finish the story before the end of the offer, you would have to dedicate yourself to it intensely every day until October 22. A daunting challenge, but reserved for the most motivated players.
