What if Battlefield 6 hadn’t delivered all its maps yet? Less than a week after its global launch, EA’s game is already making headlines with unexpected discoveries in its files. Several lines of code point to six new multiplayer modes not officially announced by the publisher.
Behind these discoveries, a name systematically comes up: Glacier, the code name of the Battlefield 6 project. In the files of the multiplayer version, specific strings reveal very explicit references to new types of gameplay. Enough to restart the speculation machine, even though the game has already sold more than 6.5 million copies worldwide since its release on October 10, 2025.
A datamine reveals six new modes, two already confirmed
Internal files identified by dataminers list six modes in preparation: Raid, Payload, Sabotage, Squad Shootout, Strikepoint and Tank Hunt. Concretely, these names appear in the following directories:
- Game/GlacierMP/Gamemodes/Raid/Mode/MUT_Raid
- Game/GlacierMP/Gamemodes/Payload/Mode/MUT_Payload
- Game/GlacierMP/Gamemodes/Sabotage/Mode/MUT_Sabotage
- Game/GlacierMP/Gamemodes/SquadShootout/Mode/MUT_SquadShootout
- Game/GlacierMP/Gamemodes/Strikepoint/Mode/MUT_Strikepoint
- Game/GlacierMP/Gamemodes/TankHunt/Mode/MUT_TankHunt
Among these six names, two have already been confirmed by EA. It is about Strikepointscheduled for season 1 from October 28, and Sabotageexpected for November 18 through the “California Resistance” update. These dates were revealed in the official roadmap shared by the publisher.
The other four modes remain in a leaky state for the moment. EA has not yet communicated on their possible future integration, but their presence in the files suggests that their development is already well advanced.
What could these new modes look like?
Even without official details, the names of the modes give clear indications of their strategic direction:
- Raid : probably a mode focused on infiltration or wave assault, around defended objectives.
- Payload : escort mode where players must push a convoy across the map, in a style close to what we see in Overwatch.
- Sabotage : based on offensive actions against enemy installations, with installation and defusing mechanics.
- Squad Shootout : quick clashes in a reduced format, focused on tactical squads.
- Strikepoint : already confirmed, this mode offers a competitive 4v4 format, with short rounds and points to capture.
- Tank Hunt : probably a mode focused on the destruction of heavy vehicles, probably asymmetrical between fighters and tank crews.
These additions are part of a logic of gameplay diversification, in response to the expectations of a community which has long demanded more varied and tactical formats. The presence of these names in the files is not trivial: they all use the same format as the already playable modes, which suggests that they are testable internally or in the final phase of development.
A busy roadmap until the end of 2025
The two confirmed modes are part of season 1, called “Rogue Ops”. This is divided into three stages:
- October 28, 2025 : arrival of Strikepoint and a new map, Blackwell Fields.
- November 18, 2025 : launch of Sabotage, accompanied by the Eastwood map and new equipment.
- December 9, 2025 : “Ice Lock” end-of-year special event with temporary weather effects on the Empire State map.
Battlefield Studios therefore seems to be banking on a dense and progressive schedule, which could easily accommodate the other modes discovered in the following months. It wouldn’t be surprising if Raid, Payload, Tank Hunt or Squad Shootout were part of Season 2 or one-off events.
A content strategy to last
Introducing new modes is crucial to maintaining the interest of a multiplayer FPS in the long term. Battlefield 6, in direct competition with Call of Duty, seems to adopt a strategy more open to experimentation. By diversifying its match types, EA hopes to cater to both competitive players and fans of tactical objectives.
It now remains to be seen whether the modes identified by dataminers will actually be made official in the coming weeks. One thing is certain: the community scrutinizes each file carefully.
