This is a rumor that has been igniting the Halo community for several days: Halo: Combat Evolved would come back in the form of a full remakewith revisited mechanics, a total graphic overhaul, and updated gameplay. The information comes from Halo Leaksa leaker known for its reliability in the Xbox ecosystem.
In his words: “I can confirm that the Halo CE Remake will feature sprinting and modern gameplay mechanics.” An important change of direction, when we know that the original 2001 version offered neither sprint nor coverage, faithful to a slower tactical formula. This complete overhaul would be more reminiscent recent Resident Evil remakeswith which the project is directly compared: “Yes, that’s right, it’s a complete remake similar to the Resident Evil remakes.”
Towards Halo 7-style gameplay?
This remake would not be a simple graphical update. It would even share its foundations with Halo’s new multiplayer modeaccording to Halo Leaks: “I’m confident that its gameplay will be similar to Halo’s new multiplayer, which I believe is also Halo 7’s multiplayer.” A statement which suggests a technical convergence between the next titles in the franchise.
This new Halo Combat Evolved would use a hybrid enginemixture between Unreal Engine 5 and the historic engine Blam Enginewhich would allow both to retain certain specificities of the original gameplay and to offer visuals that meet current standards.
According to the first leaks, the game would be focused solely on the mode single player campaignwith no multiplayer integrated into this version. Development is said to have begun in 2023with a view to leaving 2026to celebrate the 25 years of the very first Halo.
A release on PS5 in the pipeline?
The other major information is the possibility of a release on PlayStation 5. Like several other Microsoft licenses like Sea of Thieves or Hi-Fi Rush, Halo CE Remake could well be among the games that will accompany Xbox’s multiplatform strategy.
Nothing official has been announced yet, but this remake is already shaping up to be an event. For nostalgic fans and new players alike, rediscovering Halo from a modern angle, PS5 controller in hand, would be a strong symbol of a new era.
