If you play Black Myth: Wukong on PS5prepare some space: the latest update weighs 93.3 GB. A large-scale download which can be explained by the depth of the technical modifications made by Game Sciencethe studio behind the game.
But this weight does not necessarily mean more space used. The update rewrites a large portion of the game files, which may even reduce the final installation slightly. The studio also recommends, for players lacking space, uninstall the game and download it again rather than attempting a direct update.
As Game Science explains: “This time, performance optimization involves a considerable number of underlying changes, resulting in a relatively large patch size.”
A real gain in fluidity and readability, but be careful with mods
On PS5, the patch 1.0.20.21756 significantly improves the loading speedthere clarity of texturesTHE processor performanceas well as thememory usage in several environments. The visual effects have also been revised, in particular to correct the aliasing in case of rapid camera movements.
THE Performance modefor its part, has been reworked: “Performance mode has been bumped down to 60Hz, reducing input latency and providing higher resolution.” There are now two versions of this mode: the current one and the old one, renamed “Performance Mode (Legacy)”.
On PC, the changes are just as significant. The patch introduces native support for AMD FSR4 technologyimproves shader management, and fixes graphical artifacts on certain cards. The overall lighting, even in the “low” setting, now approaches the rendering of the high options.
But users of mods must remain vigilant: “If you have installed mods in the game, installing the patch may cause compatibility issues.” Several launch errors and save conflicts have been reported. The developer advises to remove all mods and check file integrity before restarting the game.
Bosses adjusted, bugs fixed, and a sequel already in the works
In addition to the optimizations, this update also brings gameplay improvements. The boss fight Giant Shigandang has been refined, the map interface is clearer, and several audio, translation or overlay bugs have been eliminated.
With his score of 8/10 awarded by IGN, Black Myth: Wukong was able to seduce players thanks to its demanding combat and its universe inspired by Chinese mythology. Building on its commercial success, a sequel is already in preparationalthough the project is still in its early stages.
In the meantime, this update makes the title more stable and more enjoyable, while reminding us that the technical management of such an ambitious game also requires… muscular patches.
