A partnership with AMD that is progressing well
Last July, Mark Cerny, architect of the PS5, and Jack Huynh, senior vice-president at AMD, were already discussing the future of their collaboration, hinting at the next generation of consoles. PlayStation goes even further today by sharing a video where the two colleagues praise the merits of their joint work. We grant it to you, everything is very technical and is not necessarily aimed at the general publicand this despite the oratorical talent (and the bewitching voice) of Mark Cerny.
The aim of the video is above all to present what is called “Universal Compression”, a technology which will “ evaluate all the data that will go into memory, not just the textures, and will compress it when possible “. This will reduce RAM usage, for better performance, lower consumption, and many other things.
But behind all this technical exchange, which highlights the technological advances made possible by this partnership, Mark Cerny indirectly mentions the PS6, or at least the future Sony console which will arrive in “ a few years » :
“ Generally speaking, these technologies are still quite new, they only exist in simulation at the moment, but the results are very promising, and I look forward to putting them into practice on a new console in a few years. »
Nothing that really advances us today, but Sony is definitely preparing the ground for the next generation of consoles.
