Steam loose 4 free games with immediate access, but watch out for the traps

In the ocean of games that flood Steam every week, it becomes difficult to distinguish the good grain from the tares. And when a title is free, the temptation is great … but disappointment can be just as much. Since this weekend, four new free games have been available on Steam, accessible without subscription or hidden costs.

The initiative, relayed by the Twitter Free Steam Games account, highlights very different titles, carried by independent developers sometimes very young. The common point? They are free, but not necessarily without consequences for your free time.

RPG, Multi and an old -fashioned shooter: test games

The first selection game, Spikerman Gameis an Action Adventure RPG developed under RPG Maker by Spikerman87. The title displays a retro artistic direction and a typical gameplay of homemade passionate projects. The author of the classification confides: “This one seems to be a passionate project, carried out by someone who loves the characters he created, and I can respect it (at least, free of charge).”

Second proposal, Splat Splatevokes a multiplayer mini-game with Mario Party sauce. Developed by APE Brain Games, he puts on Local JCJ clashes. “The graphic style is a bit heavy, but could be fun to test with friends”note the author.

More surprising, Spencer’s Spaghetti Quest offers an amazing mixture between retro FPS and visual delirium under acid. His atmosphere evokes an unlikely crossing between Pizza Tower and the very first Doom. The comment is without detour: “I’m not going to lie, I think that playing this game for more than an hour could give me my head.”

Finally, The Tale of Oathsigned Team Quener and published by Sherpherd Games, presents himself as the most ambitious title on the list. Behind this action RPG hides a team of students behind an surprisingly successful game. “This is probably the project closest to an AAA on this list, and I find its content quite impressive, knowing that it was designed from A to Z by a team of students.”

A verdict without filter to avoid wasting your time

Even free, not all these games are created equal. If you have to test one, The Tale of Oath seems to be the safest choice, combining ambition, consistency and solid gameplay. The other titles can have fun, especially in a group, but remain very raw experiences.

Note: the Steam store is flooded with new free games almost every hour. Difficult therefore to follow the pace without a dedicated watch. But for the moment, these four titles are enough to satisfy a curious evening or a weekend without budget.
