The Shift system is back in Borderlands 4, with a new series of codes available free of charge in early October. These 25 -characters combinations allow you to obtain golden keys, useful for opening chests filled with rare equipment or exclusive cosmetics. For players looking for a boost at the start of the game or a single object, it is an opportunity not to be missed.
Currently, nine codes are still active and each allow you to recover a golden key. All these codes expire on October 3, except two: one expires today (October 1), and another will remain active until 2030.

Where to find the golden chests in Borderlands 4
Unlike previous installments, Borderlands 4 offers four different golden chests, distributed in the main safe areas of the countryside. Here is where you can find them:
- Belton Mascaret : first chest accessible very early in the adventure
- The launch platform
- Carcadia
- The safe (The Lockaway)
It is not necessary to open them immediately: the objects contained adapt to your level. Using a golden key too early will offer you low power weapons. Better to wait until you have progressed a little to maximize the awards.
How to activate Shift codes and get your keys
To use a shift code, you must have a Shift (Gearbox) account. Registration can be done directly on their site or via the “social” menu of the game. Once connected, enter the code to validate it and automatically obtain your golden key.
There is also a reward linked to Discord: by binding your Network account in Discord and playing 15 minutes at Borderlands 4, you can get an additional golden key. This promotion ended on September 26, but other similar offers could return soon.
