In recent days, many subscribers Netflix French people discover a funny surprise when launching their series: advertisements for programs TF1even if they pay for an ad-free plan. In question, the integration of TF1+ directly in the service interface, with live channels, replay, etc. and advertising screens.
On the Netflix France Facebook group managed by Télé-Loisirs, a subscriber says she saw several ad breaks while watching the saga Zodiac while she subscribed to an offer without advertising. The reactions follow one another: “We avoid TF1 films on Netflix”, “TF1 has no place in the Netflix catalog”. This rejection is such that Netflix has discreetly added a new option to hide this content.
Netflix and TF1+: what does this new option really change for subscribers?
Officially, the agreement Netflix x TF1+ provides access, at no extra cost, to the TF1, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films, LCI channels and the TF1+ replay catalog directly from the application. Rodolphe Belmer, CEO of the TF1 Group, promises that “Netflix subscribers will now be able to find essential TF1 programs like never before”. Concretely, this represents thousands of hours of French fiction, reality TV, games and live sport.
On connected TVs, a dedicated rail TF1+ is now displayed on the home page, the programs also appear in the recommendations, “Continue watching” or “My list”. The option is activated by default on all profiles, without explicit request from the user, which partly explains the tension.
Why do TF1+ ads on Netflix anger so many subscribers?
The annoying point is that the advertising breaks remain active, even for offers Netflix Standard and Premium called “ad-free”. A pre-roll appears before TF1+ content, sometimes with additional interruptions. These spots do not depend on Netflix but on the advertising agency of TF1which retains its ad-funded model.
As a result, subscribers have the impression of paying more to avoid advertising while finding themselves exposed to TF1 screens in the same interface. On the networks, the messages evoke a “rant” and some are already promising to boycott films and series with the TF1 logo on Netflix.
How to deactivate TF1+ on Netflix and what this option really changes
To respond to this discontent, Netflix Dragged a new box into the profile settings. The manipulation is done from a web browser: click on your profile image, go to “Account”, choose the profile concerned, then, in the Preferences section, uncheck “TF1+ Programs”. In a few seconds, the TF1+ rail disappears from the home page as well as most of the related recommendations.
Be careful though: this option does not actually remove TF1+ of the catalog. The programs can still be found via the search bar and, if you launch an episode ofHere it all begins or a daily Secret Storythe ads will still be there. The interest of the box is above all to clean the interface and to limit the highlighting of content with advertising, profile by profile, depending on whether you want to benefit from Koh Lanta or preserve a more classic Netflix experience.
