The Witcher 3 is getting a new free quest inspired by The Last Wish playable now

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt receives a new reason to return to your SSD: a free quest inspired directly by the compendium The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski, playable now on PC thanks to an ambitious mod.

While CD Projekt Red quietly prepare for the future The Witcher 4the community is responsible for feeding the fans. Worn by modder Samuel Ch, The Last Wish Project wants to turn the entire book into playable content in The Witcher 3. Its first stone, history The Lesser Evil / The Lesser Evilis already available in alpha version. Here’s what this new quest offers and how to access it.

The Last Wish Project for The Witcher 3: a free “DLC” faithful to the books?

The Last Wish Project is a fan-made, non-commercial project that recreates the short stories of The Last Wish in the form of quests integrated into The Witcher 3. Like in the book, Geralt of Rivia y thinks back on his old adventures from a temple, which translates into a narrative-centered flashback structure in the game.

Samuel Ch explains that he wants to build a “solid and faithful skeleton” to Sapkowski’s texts. He clarifies that the mod is “designed as an action-adventure game that complements the books, not as an RPG.” Concretely, expect a more linear progression, less focused on loot, but with a strong focus on the staging, dialogues and moral dilemmas dear to the Witcher universe.

What does the new free quest The Lesser Evil say in The Witcher 3?

The first playable quest adapts The Lesser Evilthe founding episode which earned Geralt his nickname “Butcher of Blaviken”. We find the small town of Blaviken, a hunt for a monster like the kikimora and above all an impossible choice which defines the character. The tone is dark, very close to the first game The Witcher and writings by Andrzej Sapkowski.

The mod is currently offered in Alpha 0.01, but already displays careful production. The first versions used synthetic voices, since replaced by real English and Polish dubbing provided by actors, which completely changes the immersion. The creator says that “flipping through the pages of Sapkowski’s book and getting lost in the recreation of this magnificent work felt like a retreat, where I could express my passions and meet the good people of the Witcher community.”

How to install and play The Last Wish Project on PC right now?

The mod works on the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Huntideally in full edition or with the next-gen update. It can be downloaded for free via the official project website or the page Nexus Mods. The creators recommend manual installation: simply extract the archive then copy the mod files into the game directory, without using a mod manager. An optional Reshade preset is offered.

Consider making a dedicated backup, as the alpha may still contain bugs or conflicts with other quest mods. For the moment, the dubbing is available in English and Polish, with no French version announced. Ultimately, the project aims to adapt all news from The Last Wishbut without a precise timetable. While waiting for official news from The Witcher 4, this free quest is already an excellent excuse to delve into Geralt’s past.
