Xiaomi previews Android 17 on select models

Xiaomi takes a step ahead of the competition by now opening early access to Android 17 on a handful of hand-picked smartphones. While the stable version of the system Google is expected after the Google I/O conference on May 19 and 20, 2026, some users can already play guinea pigs.

However, this is not a classic update but a very technical beta, presented in turn as Android 17 Beta And Developer Preview. Between selection of models, manual installation procedure and very real risks, here is what you need to know before attempting the adventure.

Android 17 Xiaomi: which models are entitled to this preview?

The official program Android 17 Developer Preview Program of Xiaomi currently only concerns four high-end devices. Are compatible:

  • Xiaomi 17 (HyperOS OS3.0.301.0.WPCMIXM)
  • Xiaomi 17 Ultra (OS3.0.9.0.WPAMIXM)
  • Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi (OS3.0.9.0.WPAMIXM)
  • Xiaomi 15T Pro (OS3.0.11.0.WOSMIXM)

These references, already among the best served in updates at Xiaomishould also appear in the very first wave when the stable version ofAndroid 17 will be ready. In the meantime, early access requires manual flashing of a ROM provided by the manufacturer.

Should you install the Android 17 beta on your Xiaomi 17 or 15T Pro?

Xiaomi does not mince its words on its official site, cited by Phonandroid: “Android 17 being still in the beta testing phase, stability problems may arise. Its daily use is not recommended”. Understand: this Developer Preview is primarily aimed at developers and very advanced users, not the general public.

Installing this beta erases all data from the phone. Full backup required, and especially to be avoided on your main smartphone. Expect bugs, crashes of sensitive applications like banking apps, or even worse battery life. For a developer profile or mobile tinkering enthusiast, the deal is good. For professional or family use, it is better to wait a few more weeks.
