On the official X account of the anime adaptation of »Sword Art Online« it was announced today that there will be new information about the next film project soon. We summarize.
New information in July 2026
The project, described as a “completely new original story,” was announced back in November 2022 as part of the “Sword Art Online: Full Dive” event, before ongoing production was confirmed in January 2024.
More than two years later, new information will be published for the first time in July 2026, although it is still unclear how extensive this will be. An exact date has not yet been set.
The anime adaptation of “Sword Art Online” currently includes four series seasons, the original film “Ordinal Scale” and two “Progressive” films. Another film titled “Unanswered//butterfly: Sword Art Online” will be released on July 10, 2026 along with the video game “Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad”.
The publisher peppermint anime released the series and the previous films with German and Japanese language versions on DVD and Blu-ray.
