Shrek finally has his official bricks. After years of memes and rejected projects on LEGO Ideas, a page goes live too soon on the official website LEGO Korea revealed the set 72423 Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Bootsfirst real set LEGO Shrek of history. The images were quickly deleted, but they are already circulating on specialized sites like Bricks Up or TheGamer.
Result: the community ignites around this 18+ set, designed for the exhibition, which seems full of nods to the films of DreamWorks Animation. Between giant Shrek design, expressive Donkey and exclusive Puss in Boots minifigure, the leak almost gives the impression of an official announcement… without the press conference.
LEGO Shrek leaked: what do the images of set 72423 really show?
The visuals reveal a large “brick-built” Shrek, green skin and beige tunic, clearly collector-oriented. The face uses printed parts for the eyes and eyebrows, just to find the tired but endearing look of the ogre. Killer detail: its belly would be removable, hiding an onion, a printed waffle and an eyeball, a direct reference to the culinary gags of Shrek.
At his side, Donkey also appears in giant construction, with a very expressive head and an articulated mouth. He is holding a blue flower bristling with red thorns, a nod to the cult scene where he desperately searches for the “blue flower with red thorns”. The whole thing rests on a marshy base, with vegetation, two sunflowers and the “Beware Ogre” sign planted in front of Shrek’s cabin.
The icing on the cake is that the only minifigure in the set is a Puss in Boots unpublished, perched on Shrek’s shoulder. Feathered hat, boots, sword and large round eyes: everything indicates an exclusive figurine which will increase the value of the set among collectors.
What will this first LEGO Shrek set change for fans and collectors?
So far, LEGO had never officially touched the license Shrekdespite several rejected LEGO Ideas projects, often highlighted by BrickFanatics. For fans, seeing a numbered set arrive, with an official DreamWorks logo, it’s the end of a running gag of more than 20 years.
The 18+ positioning and 1,403 pieces confirm that LEGO is primarily aimed at nostalgic adults, those who discovered the first film at the cinema and who are already showing Star Wars sets or Harry Potter on their shelves. On Reddit, the leak was initially mistaken for a fake, before the mention of the LEGO Korea site caused comments to switch between “it’s fake” and “take my money”.
Release date, price, future LEGO Shrek range: what should we expect?
According to several corroborating sources, including Pickle Bricks, the set LEGO Shrek 72423 would be planned for the June 1, 2026. A timing that fits perfectly with the release of Shrek 5announced in cinemas for July 1, 2026, a month later, as a merchandising warm-up.
On the price side, the leak suggests a price of $129.99 (around €130) among some observers, while others speak of $159.99 (around €160). We can therefore anticipate a French range around 130 to 160 euros, aligned with other 18+ sets of comparable size, awaiting official confirmation.
Above all, 72423 would only be the tip of the iceberg. Rumors suggest a series of minifigs CMF 71053 LEGO Shrek for September 2026, a duo BrickHeadz 40923 Shrek and Donkeyas well as other sets numbered 72421 and 72422 potentially centered on the swamp, Duloc or Dragon’s Keep. As long as LEGO has not communicated, all this remains to be taken in perspective, but the leak from an official site at least makes the arrival of set 72423 almost certain.
