New license from Korea, Crimson Desert has just reached a symbolic milestone: more than 5 million copies sold in less than a month. For Pearl Abyssalready known for Black Desertthis worldwide hit confirms that its open-world action adventure set on the continent of Pywel found its audience, despite a rocky launch.

Released March 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox SeriesPC via Steam and Epic, as well as on Mac, the game was first divided. Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without you and we are deeply grateful to you.” On the activity side, the title peaked at more than 240,000 simultaneous players on Steamthen 276,261 at the highest.

Criticized launch, express patches: how Crimson Desert increased its rating

On a critical level, Crimson Desert runs around 77 on Metacritici.e. a “generally favorable” reception. Insider Gaming gave it 7 out of 10, praising its gigantic scale but uneven execution. The debate remains lively between those who see it as a candidate for GOTY and those who point out a story that is too flat and an unimpressive ending game loop.

Pearl Abyss reacted quickly. Early patches improved fast travel, interface, key remapping and difficulty balance, before a broader roadmap arrived. As a result, player reviews rose to “Very Positive” on Steam. According to data from Circana in the United States, players spend an average of 20 hours per week on Xbox and 22 hours on PlayStation in the game, where the in-house engine BlackSpace Engine offers spectacular combat and very dense exploration.

What future for Pearl Abyss after 5 million sales of Crimson Desert

For the South Korean studio, this success establishes Crimson Desert as a new AAA showcase internationally. Local brokerages now see further growth potential, particularly if the game is licensed for release in China. Next step, hold the duration.
