New “Detective Conan” film opens with a historic box office record in Japan

Today, “Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway,” the latest film in the “Detective Conan” series, celebrated its premiere in Japan – and immediately broke an extremely impressive record. We summarize the details below.

New record

Since the story of “Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway” takes place in the city of Yokohama, the local cinema T-Joy Yokohama has decided to honor the now 29th franchise film with 59 screenings on the first day.

Comprised of one midnight screening, eight Dolby Cinema format screenings, and 50 regular screenings, this number is without a doubt unparalleled in the anime industry.

Previously, “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” (2020) held the record for the most film screenings in a cinema on opening day with 42 screenings, followed by the first “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” film (2025) with 40 screenings, both numbers coming from Toho Cinema Shinjuku – where it was also surpassed by “Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway” with 44 screenings.

Even if the “Detective Conan” films do not generate record revenues, their dominance and, above all, consistency reflect the series’ status as an audience favorite in Japan. The last film, “Detective Conan: The Flashback of the One-Eyed Man,” brought in around 14.7 billion yen (the equivalent of around 79 million euros).

At the moment, no German cinema release has been announced. Of course, we will keep you updated as usual.
