Red Dead Redemption 3: the main character finally known and this unexpected choice is intriguing

While everyone only talks about GTA VIanother cult license from Rockstar Games continues to obsess players: Red Dead Redemption. Since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, sold nearly 80 million copies, the question comes up again and again: who will be the hero of Red Dead Redemption 3 ?

Sadie, Dutch, Jack Marston, a completely new hero… The community already had its favorites. But a Hollywood star has just invited himself into the debate and proposed a totally unexpected protagonist, relaunching the battle of the “Red Dead Redemption 3 main character” like never before.

Red Dead Redemption 3 main character: has Jack Black just lifted the veil?

Officially, Rockstar Games never announced Red Dead Redemption 3. The signals mainly came from outside: Dan Houser explained that the series could continue, and Roger Clarkthe interpreter ofArthur Morgansays he is convinced that a third episode will arrive one day, while recalling that Arthur will not return. A new protagonist is therefore acquired, but nothing was really embodied.

This is where it happens Jack Black. In an interview with Polygon and relayed by PaperGeek, the actor said: “Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place around the turn of the century, right? There was a character at that time named Jack Black, who wrote an autobiography called You Can’t Win. I would love to play Jack Black in Red Dead Redemption 3.”

This historical “Jack Black” really existed: professional burglar, vagabond, author of You Can’t Wina cult book describing the life of hobos, robberies and prison. Exactly the type of profile that we could come across in the world of Red Dead.

Sadie, Dutch, Jack Marston… what does this unexpected choice change for the hero of RDR3?

Until now, fan favorites remained well-known faces. Sadie Adlerfirst, badass heroine of RDR2often cited as an ideal candidate to become the first female protagonist of the license, why not during a trip to South America. Next comes Jack Marstonwith the idea of a sequel after RDR1on the border between late western and the birth of urban gangs.

Another strong track: a prequel centered on Dutch van der Linde and the famous Blackwater heist, a key event never shown. Some go even further, imagining Lyle MorganArthur’s father, as the hero of a “final” prequel. Others rely on a completely new protagonist, to turn the page on John and Arthur while keeping the theme of redemption.

Jack Black’s proposal shakes up this landscape. For the first time, a well-known actor self-candidates with a real historical character, at the crossroads of fiction and criminal documentary. There remains a major question: will Rockstar agree to entrust the main role to a star, while the studio usually favors poorly identified actors to promote immersion?

Red Dead Redemption 3: when to expect the game and does Jack Black have a real chance?

On the calendar, caution is required. GTA VI monopolizes the teams of Rockstar Games at least until 2026, and in-house development cycles often run around 6 to 8 years. In the best case, Red Dead Redemption 3 would therefore aim for the very end of the decade, around 2028 or 2030. No price has obviously been announced, even if we can imagine a launch in the current AAA range, around 70 dollars, or around €80.

On the casting side, there is no indication today that Jack Black is in discussions with Rockstar. Its media release looks more like a very clever appeal than a disguised tease. Considering the studio’s habits, seeing him as a notable secondary character, or even as a charismatic antagonist inspired by the real criminal Jack Black, seems much more credible than as a playable hero.

One thing is certain: this improbable idea has just added a very strong name to the list of candidates. Between Sadie, Dutch, Jack Marston, a new hero or this historical burglar carried by Jack Black, the debate on the “Red Dead Redemption 3 main character” is only just beginning. And you, which face would you like to embody when Rockstar finally returns to the Wild West?
