PS Portal rolls out new update with big changes

After a day where many players reported disconnections and an inability to launch the Remote PlaySony has just released the firmware 7.0.2 for the PS Portal. The update is intended to be discreet, but it clearly aims for streaming stability.

Since the end of 2025, the portable console dedicated to the PS5 has undergone a series of developments, from Cloud Streaming to 1080p High Quality mode. This new patch does not add a flagship function, it mainly seeks to make a system more reliable that has become central to playing away from the television.

PS Portal 7.0.2 update: what does the official changelog really say?

The update 7.0.2available since April 8, 2026, announces two changes: improved performance and stability of the system software, and improvement of messages as well as the ergonomics of certain screens. In practice, this is a behind-the-scenes fix rather than a new interface.

This timing is not trivial, since it follows a wave of complaints about Remote Play sessions which were cut off for no reason or no longer started. Even if Sony does not detail the bugs corrected, the message is clear for players affected by these problems. Note that the download may remain stuck at a specific percentage for a long time; a priori it is sufficient to leave the PS Portal complete the installation without turning it off.

Remote Play, Cloud Streaming: how can 7.0.2 change your use of PS Portal?

In November 2025, a big update brought Cloud Streaming to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, a three-tab interface, network diagnostics and 3D sound. In March 2026, the firmware 7.0.0 added mode 1080p High Qualitysimplified connection via QR code and richer trophy notifications.

All these bricks rely on a stable Wi-Fi connection between the PS Portalyour box and the Sony servers. When Sony talks about improved stability, it usually means fewer dropouts, more responsive menus, and better error handling in mid-air. Remote Play Or Cloud Streamingespecially if you have activated 1080p High Quality.

Should I install the 7.0.2 PS Portal update now?

If you are having connection problems, the answer is yes. From the system settings of the PS Portallaunch the update search, check that version 7.0.2 is installed, then test a Remote Play session on the same Wi Fi network as your PS5or even in Cloud Streaming if you are a subscriber PS Plus Premium.

If everything works perfectly for you, you can wait a short time to observe the feedback from the community. But in the medium term, staying on old firmware risks blocking online functions. 7.0.2 therefore appears to be an important step to stabilize the major changes introduced in recent months on the PS Portal.
