Zelda Ocarina of Time: a Switch 2 remake teased and now almost confirmed

For years, fans have been calling for a grand return of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, other than a simple emulated port. According to a new leak considered very solid, Nintendo has finally made a decision: a complete remake of the N64 classic would be in development for the future Nintendo Switch 2, with a role as a technical showcase for the machine. Enough to electrify the community without any official announcement having yet been made.

This hallway noise doesn’t come out of nowhere. Since an interview given in 2023 by Eiji Aonuma, then a series of leaks aligned with the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, the Zelda Ocarina of Time remake Switch 2 file has gradually solidified. Between credible insiders and internal reactions at Nintendo, we are now moving from a simple fantasy to an almost confirmed project.

Zelda Ocarina of Time remake Switch 2: why is the rumor becoming very serious?

On March 28, 2026, leaker NateTheHate claims in his podcast that a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is in production at Nintendo, designed for the Nintendo Switch 2 and targeted for the second half of 2026, around the end of year holidays. Its history speaks for itself: it has already aimed right at the Switch 2 window, several Nintendo Directs, Fire Emblem Engage and even Metroid Prime Remaster.

The French and international press are taking up the same scenario: a nostalgic Nintendo Switch 2 line-up, with a new Star Fox from summer 2026 and Mario 3D pushed back to 2027, while Ocarina of Time would be aimed at the end of the year. Another signal, former communications manager Kit Ellis explains to GamesRadar that Nintendo is “absolutely furious” about leaks and wants to toughen up the fight against leakers.

A complete remake of Ocarina of Time on Switch 2: what face for Hyrule in 2026?

The teasing, however, dates back to 2023. Asked by Game Informer about a modern remake of Ocarina of Time, Eiji Aonuma burst out laughing before responding, in English, a simple “no comment” instead of the traditional denial. The articles today mention a project “remade from A to Z”, closer to a Final Fantasy VII Remake or a Demon’s Souls PS5 than to an HD port. Where a remaster mainly improves sharpness, a remake reconstructs sets, 3D models and staging.

Several media, including Numerama, imagine a rendering close to the Zelda technical demo from E3 2011, with a more realistic Hyrule, finer lighting and a stable frame rate. Fans hope that Nintendo will not transform the game into “Ocarina of the Wild”: retain the original structure, but modernize camera, combat and gameplay comfort for newcomers to Switch 2.

Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 in 2026: what are the expectations for the release?

The leaks converge towards a launch at the end of 2026, for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, with a possible dedicated Switch 2 edition. No prices have been leaked yet.
