According to him, “it has become clear that the community is survival, and that we need your help. Because starting next month, we will be organizing a series of alpha playtests with the community.” Concretely, several waves of tests are planned from May 2026, with a mix of profiles sought on the PC and Xbox side to test the servers and the coop.

Without revealing everything, Undead Labs promises an alpha focused on the core of the experience. Brant Fitzgerald talks about “4-player co-op, new base-building and resource management strategies, and tons of combat.” The idea is to let survivors test the cooperative gameplay loop that will make or break the success of State of Decay 3.
The game is running this time on Unreal Engine 5, which should allow for more detailed environments and better readability in co-op. We remain in an open world of survival, with camp and community management, designed for multiplayer.
