Tomb Raider: filming of the Amazon Prime series suspended after a terrible incident

Filming of the Tomb Raider series produced by Amazon MGM Studios has just been temporarily interrupted. In question, an injury to the main actress Sophie Turner, chosen to play Lara Croft in this live action adaptation.

The information, revealed recently, specifies that this pause remains temporary. The studio wants to be reassuring about the continuation of the project, even if no exact resumption date has yet been communicated. At this point, the series still does not have an official release schedule.

Sophie Turner’s injury caused filming to stop

In a press release, Amazon MGM Studios wanted to clarify the situation. The studio says “Sophie Turner recently suffered a minor injury.” This situation led to an immediate decision regarding production. The press release also states: “As a precautionary measure, production was briefly interrupted to allow it to recover. We hope to resume filming as soon as possible. »

For the moment, the exact circumstances of this injury remain unknown. It is not confirmed whether it occurred directly on or off the set.

A limited but closely monitored interruption

According to initial information, this break should last around two weeks. A relatively short duration which suggests that the overall schedule could be little impacted. However, in the audiovisual industry, even a temporary shutdown can result in logistical adjustments. The production schedule, team availability and technical constraints could be affected. In this specific case, Amazon seems to want to limit the consequences and stay the course on the project.

An ambitious adaptation with a solid cast

This Tomb Raider series is one of Amazon’s major projects for its Prime Video platform. The choice of Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, marks a desire to offer a strong interpretation of the character of Lara Croft. Around her, the cast brings together several recognized actors, including Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon and Sigourney Weaver, who will play a new character in the universe of the franchise.

The series is led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, creator and screenwriter of the project, accompanied by Chad Hodge. The production is entrusted to Jonathan Van Tulleken.

A Tomb Raider series still without a release date

Despite the enthusiasm around the project, no specific timetable has yet been announced. This interruption of filming should not, at this stage, call into question the production, but it adds to an already long wait for fans. Since the first image revealed in January, showing Sophie Turner in the role of Lara Croft, information remains limited. The project is moving forward, but without clear visibility on its distribution.
