GTA 6: Take-Two CEO mentions a price and it could surprise players

Every detail around Grand Theft Auto VI is carefully scrutinized, and the question of price is no exception. While the release is still expected for November 19, a statement from the boss of Take-Two Interactive revives speculation.

During an exchange around advertising in video games, Strauss Zelnick indirectly mentioned the prices charged on the group’s productions. Without explicitly mentioning GTA 6, his comments were quickly interpreted as a clue to the price of the game.

GTA 6, a price mentioned without being officially confirmed

At the heart of the discussions, a sentence spoken by the leader particularly attracts attention. He explains clearly: “For free games, yes. For games you paid 70 or 80 dollars for, no.” This declaration comes in a specific context, that of the integration of advertising in games. It therefore does not directly concern the price of GTA 6, but it gives an indication of the publisher’s usual price range. The fact that this range is mentioned several times suggests that the group’s future premium games could comply with it, without exceeding this threshold.

A position on advertising that informs strategy

Beyond the price, Strauss Zelnick’s intervention sheds light on the philosophy of Take-Two. He explains: “We have a little advertising in games like NBA 2K because it naturally fits the world of the game.” However, this approach remains limited. The CEO emphasizes an essential point for players: “It’s very difficult for me to imagine that we would want to integrate intrusive advertising into a game that someone paid 70 or 80 dollars for, it would seem unfair.”

A price consistent with the current AAA games market

For several years, so-called AAA games have generally been between $70 and $80. This range has become the standard for large productions. In this context, it would be logical for Rockstar Games to align with these standards for GTA 6. Despite its status as an extremely anticipated game, there is currently no indication of a significant increase beyond these prices. This could represent good news for players, who feared an even higher price given the scale of the project.

Huge wait around GTA 6 before its release

The wait around GTA 6 remains exceptional. Every piece of information, be it gameplay, trailers, or content, sparks massive interest. The question of price is part of this dynamic. Even without official confirmation, the slightest statement is analyzed and debated. As the release date approaches, other details should come to clarify Take-Two’s strategy. In the meantime, this indication around 70 to 80 dollars constitutes one of the rare concrete benchmarks for players.
