Age of Mythology: Retold: “Obsidian Mirror” DLC focused on Aztec mythology will be released on April 21 on PC and consoles

Available since September 2024 on PC and Xbox Series, before arriving in March 2025 on PlayStation 5, Age of Mythology: Retold has already welcomed two paid DLCs last year, “Immortal Pillars” and “Heavenly Spear”, respectively integrating Chinese and Japanese civilizations into its roster. However, World’s Edge, Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, CaptureAge, Virtuos Games and Microsoft have clearly not yet finished with the remake of the real-time strategy game initially marketed in 2002. As proof, these studios announced yesterday that a third expansion will soon see the light of day: “Obsidian Mirror”. Centered on Aztec mythology, it will be released on April 21 on PC and consoles.

A famous pantheon from the New World is coming to the RTS very soon

Presented as additional additional content “bold” than the previous ones, this one will invite us to take control of the Aztecs whose gameplay will essentially be based on the themes of the “sacrifice, illusion and the perpetual cycle of life and power”. Concretely, this means that we will have to learn to set ambushes, manipulate our adversaries and exploit their vital force in order to obtain divine favors and establish our domination on the battlefield. Furthermore, it will also be possible to build towers from the bodies of our enemies defeated in combat.

As for deities, twelve will be present in total, including three major ones: Quetzalcoatlthe feathered snake which will notably boost the development of our population, Tezcatlipocathe “Smoking Mirror” which will summon for us slaves from the realm of the dead and make our powers of illusion more effective, and Huitzilopochtligod of the sun and war who will grant us devastating military power, provided we do not skimp on sacrifices. As for the nine other minor deities, linking ourselves to them will also allow us to benefit from various and varied in-game advantages, including unique mythical units.

In addition to all these additions, this DLC will be the opportunity to participate in a new and original campaign. Made up of twelve scripted missions, it will plunge us into the heart of the divine conflict between the worshipers of Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca and Huitzilopochtli.
