GTA 6: leak reveals key feature that could completely transform its open world

The wait around GTA 6 continues to rise, driven by a community that scrutinizes the slightest clue. Since the first trailers, Rockstar Games has maintained the mystery around its next blockbuster, without concretely revealing the mechanics that will make the difference. But a recent leak may change that.

Spotted on LinkedIn then quickly deleted, a publication from a former studio developer discusses technology never before seen in the series. Information which, if confirmed, could redefine the level of interaction in the open world of the game.

GTA 6 and its open world, a leak that changes expectations

According to this former graphics programmer who worked at Rockstar Games between February 2020 and April 2023, he took the initiative to develop the next-generation procedural breakable glass system for vehicles and accessories.

In the same message, he also specifies that he helped design production tools to capture gameplay footage with additional detail from our rendering systems.

These technical elements, while complex, suggest a major evolution in the way environments react to player actions. Just being able to interact with surfaces like glass could become much more realistic and dynamic.

A new destruction system for GTA 6?

If Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed anything, this leak already fuels many hypotheses. The term “procedural” suggests that each impact could generate a unique result. In other words, breaking a window would no longer produce an identical pre-programmed effect each time. The game could take into account parameters like force, angle or even the object used to create realistic destruction. This type of system could be applied to both vehicles and buildings. A development that would give the open world a level of credibility never before achieved in the series.

Faced with Red Dead Redemption 2, a new expected standard

Today, many consider Red Dead Redemption 2 to be the ultimate open world benchmark. Rockstar Games had already integrated an impressive level of detail, with extensive interactions in each environment. With GTA 6, expectations are even higher. Players are no longer just looking for a huge map, but a living universe, capable of reacting credibly to their actions. An advanced destruction system, even on elements like windows, could contribute to this immersion. This is not just a visual detail, but an indicator of the care put into every aspect of the game.

Vice City and interactivity, the real challenge of the next GTA

The announced return to Vice City is already fueling fantasies. But beyond the size of the map, it is the density of interactions that will be scrutinized. An open world can impress with its dimensions, but quickly lose its interest if the elements that compose it remain fixed. Conversely, an interactive environment gives the player the impression of having a real impact on their world. This leak, centered on an advanced breakable glass system, suggests a clear direction: that of a world where every detail counts. It remains to be seen how far Rockstar Games will push this logic.
