The FIFA license has not said its last word. After the separation with Electronic Arts and the arrival of EA Sports FC, a new official project has just made headlines again. Its name: FIFA Heroes. And its first trailer, revealed on March 25, 2026, is nothing like what players expected.
Designed as a free mobile game, FIFA Heroes is due to be released on April 28, 2026 on iOS and Android, directly via the Netflix application. An already unusual choice of distribution, which is accompanied by an artistic direction and a concept which destabilize as much as it intrigues.
FIFA Heroes, a free FIFA game that completely breaks the codes
With FIFA Heroes, the franchise takes an unexpected turn. Gone is the realistic simulation that made the series successful for decades. The game here offers a 5v5 arcade experience, closer to FIFA Street than a classic episode. Players play stylized, cartoonish versions of football stars. The trailer highlights several emblematic figures such as Diego Maradona, Emiliano MartÃnez, Jack Grealish and Harry Kane.
But what surprises the most remains the addition of totally unexpected elements. Some characters have special powers, and an unlikely guest even appears: Thor. A mixture of genres which contrasts radically with the traditional image of the FIFA license.
An intriguing trailer, but no gameplay
If this first video attracts attention, it also leaves many questions unanswered. No gameplay clips are shown, which makes it difficult to concretely evaluate the experience offered. The whole thing is based on an animated cinematic, featuring the game world and its characters. The tone, deliberately offbeat, suggests a more accessible game, designed for a large mobile audience. A detail also caught some observers’ attention: the England team jersey visible in the trailer corresponds to the 2022/23 season, while the game is released in 2026. A visual choice which adds to the overall strangeness of the project.
Netflix, a new playground for FIFA
One of the most notable aspects of FIFA Heroes remains its distribution method. The game will be exclusively available through the Netflix mobile app. This positioning confirms the platform’s desire to strengthen its catalog of video games, by attracting strong licenses capable of reaching a massive audience. For FIFA, it is also a way to return to the forefront without going through the traditional video game circuits, now dominated by EA Sports FC.
FIFA Heroes against EA Sports FC, a risky but strategic bet
Since 2023, the FIFA license has disappeared from games developed by Electronic Arts. EA Sports FC has taken over, retaining the majority of official licenses and historic gameplay. With FIFA Heroes, the brand is choosing a completely different direction. Rather than entering into direct competition in the field of simulation, it explores a more accessible experience, arcade and mobile oriented. It remains to be seen whether this choice will appeal to players. Success will largely depend on the quality of the gameplay, still absent from this first presentation, but also on the game’s ability to establish itself in an already saturated market.
