The international aid organization Doctors Without Borders has named Tony Tony Chopper from “One Piece” as an official supporter. We summarize.
Shared values in focus
The character Chopper, known as the ship’s doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates, represents compassion and the desire to help people. His dream of being able to cure all diseases coincides with the basic principles of Doctors Without Borders.
The organization itself also sees Chopper as a suitable ambassador: both are united by the goal of providing medical care to people regardless of their origin, religion or political affiliation.
To mark the start of the collaboration, Eiichiro Oda, creator of the manga series “One Piece,” created a new illustration that shows Chopper equipped with a medical backpack that is based on real emergency bags.
He also wears a T-shirt from the organization and holds a flag with its logo in his hand. His pose is deliberately reminiscent of the so-called “Running Man” (rescue sign), which symbolizes Doctors Without Borders.
Exclusive mini manga
As part of the cooperation, a website was also set up where fans can find out more about the organization’s work in the form of an exclusive mini-manga. Accompanying this, content is also planned on social media platforms.
Doctors Without Borders is active in over 70 countries and provides medical aid in crisis areas around the world, such as conflicts, epidemics or natural disasters.
With Chopper as a supporter, the aim is to increase awareness of this work and reach new target groups. The partnership combines the reach of a globally successful anime and manga franchise with a humanitarian cause.
