The Nintendo Switch Online catalog has continued to grow for several years. Nintendo’s online service allows players to rediscover iconic games from the brand’s old consoles, ranging from the Game Boy to the GameCube.
With the Expansion Pack plan, subscribers can access a regularly updated library of retro titles. Nintendo adds new games over the months in order to maintain players’ interest and enrich the experience offered. This week, three new titles join the collection, including several classics featuring Mario.
Two Virtual Boy games join the catalog
Among the new features available, two games from the Virtual Boy console have just been added to the service. It is about Mario Tennis And Mario Clashtwo titles initially released in 1995 on this atypical Nintendo console. The Virtual Boy remains today one of the most unique machines in the history of the Japanese manufacturer. Launched in the 1990s, it offered a pseudo-3D gaming experience with a very characteristic red and black display.
Despite a very short lifespan on the market, some games on the platform have remained popular with fans. With the arrival of Mario Tennis and Mario Clash on Nintendo Switch Online, the service’s Virtual Boy catalog now reaches nine games available.
A Game Boy Advance classic also available
In addition to the two Virtual Boy games, Nintendo has also added a third title to its service. It is about Mario vs. Donkey Konga game originally released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance. This title mixing reflection and platforms had a notable success upon its release, thanks to its levels built around puzzles and ingenious mechanisms.
The game has even seen a resurgence of interest recently, as Nintendo released a modernized remake on Nintendo Switch in 2024. For players who want to experience the original experience, the Game Boy Advance version is now accessible directly through Nintendo Switch Online.
Another important game expected this month
These new additions shouldn’t be the only ones arriving on the service this month. Nintendo has already confirmed the upcoming arrival of another highly anticipated title in the service’s GameCube catalog. It is about Pokémon XD: Gale of Darknessa spin-off of the Pokémon series originally released in 2005 on GameCube. The exact date of its arrival on Nintendo Switch Online has not yet been confirmed, but Nintendo has indicated that it should be available before the end of March.
The Expansion Pack remains necessary to access new games
It is important to note that these new titles are not accessible with the basic subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service. They are reserved for subscribers with the formula Expansion Packwhich provides access to additional retro catalogs. This formula notably includes games from the Nintendo 64, the Game Boy Advance, the GameCube and the Virtual Boy.
The price of this more complete version of the service is currently set at approximately $49.99 per year. With the regular addition of new retro games, Nintendo seeks to strengthen the interest of its subscription by offering an increasingly rich library for nostalgic players.
