New fantasy anime “MAO” receives two courses + trailer


New details about the series’ broadcast were announced today on the official X account of the anime adaptation of “MAO”. You can find a new trailer below.

Starting in April 2026

“MAO” will therefore be shown on Japanese television in two consecutive courses (six months in a row) from April 4, 2026. A simulcast in Germany has not yet been announced.

The Sunrise studio is responsible for producing the fantasy series, with Teruo Satou (“Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon”) directing. Yuuko Kakihara (“Tsukigakirei”) is writing the script.

The opening song entitled “HEARTLOUD”, which can be heard in the trailer, is sung by the Japanese boy band Kis-My-Ft2, while the ending song “Juai” is by Miho Karasawa (opening song of “Unnamed Memory”).

The original manga series of the same name written by “Ranma 1/2” author Rumiko Takahashi has been published in “Weekly Shounen Sunday” magazine since May 2019. The work is available through VIZ Media with an English translation.

Nanoka enters the Taisho period through a portal and is saved from a cruel Yokai by the exorcist Mao.

Back in the present, she suddenly discovers supernatural powers. In search of answers, she returns to the past and becomes entangled in Mao’s investigation into brutal murders.

She learns about the curse of the cat demon Byoki, which weighs on Mao and his sword – but when Mao’s life is in danger, she grabs the blade.
