Zelda meets Skyrim in a stunning free RPG, a masterpiece not to be missed

Valve Corporation’s catalog via Steam continues to be enriched with ambitious projects, and certain independent titles manage to stand out even before their release. This is the case of Drakantosa free-to-play MMORPG developed by Wingeon Game Studios LLC, which immediately evokes a mix between Zelda-style exploration and the freedom of Skyrim. With its high-definition pixel art style and its original approach to multiplayer, the game already intrigues part of the RPG community.

An MMORPG that exudes 90s nostalgia

From the first images, Drakantos recalls the golden age of video games in the 90s. Its pixel art aesthetic evokes the heyday of retro RPGs, while benefiting from a modern visual finesse impossible to achieve on old consoles.

But behind this nostalgic appearance hides a vast and dynamic world. The environment seems rich in dungeons, ruined temples and imposing cities, reinforcing the comparison with The Legend of Zelda. At the same time, the ambition of a persistent online world and an advanced multiplayer system recalls the DNA of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, even if the approach remains more MMO-oriented. The result: a universe that seems to mix solo adventure and massive cooperation.

21 playable heroes and a strategic cooperative system

Unlike many MMORPGs that rely on creating a customizable avatar integrated with classic classes, Drakantos takes a different approach. Players choose from 21 predefined heroeseach having:

  • a unique set of capabilities
  • specific powers
  • a distinct fighting style

This structure encourages strategic cooperation. Players can combine their skills to create powerful group synergies, transforming fights into true tactical choreographies. Another important element: the studio has promised to regularly add new heroes during major updates. This suggests a constant renewal of gameplay and team composition possibilities.

Rich content: solo, guilds and collection

Although multiplayer is the core of the experience, much of the content will be accessible in single player. This might appeal to fans of quiet exploration and narrative adventure.

Among the announced features:

  • housing system
  • economic market
  • guilds
  • world events
  • dozens of pets to collect
  • more than 30 emotes per hero

This social and community dimension reinforces the MMO identity of the project. The collection side, particularly pets, should also appeal to players who appreciate customization and long-term progression.

An expected release, but without an official date

The only gray area at the moment: no official release date has been announced. The game is confirmed as free-to-play and will arrive on Steam, but the studio continues to share development updates for now without a specific timetable. This regular communication nevertheless suggests that an announcement could come soon.

In a market saturated with open-world RPGs, Drakantos seems to be banking on a clear positioning: visual nostalgia, free accessibility and multiplayer depth. If the project delivers on its promises, it could well become one of the most watched indie MMORPGs of the year.
