New details about the fourth film were announced today on the X account of the original anime “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”. We summarize.
Cinema release in August 2026
The sequel film “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie – Walpurgis Night: Rising”, which has already been postponed several times, is now expected to premiere in Japanese cinemas on August 28, 2026.
The Shaft studio is once again responsible for the production of the film, which continues the story after the third film, with Yukihiro Miyamoto (“A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof”) once again directing.
The original “Madoka Magica” series includes twelve episodes that aired on Japanese television during the winter 2011 season, two compilation films and a first sequel in the form of a third film released in October 2013.
A disc release of the series and the third film was carried out by LEONINE Anime. However, the license now belongs to the publisher polyband anime, who is planning a new complete box set with the series and all three previous films for this year. A release date and further details are currently still open.
