Pokémon Pokopia mobilizes the largest team ever created at Omega Force

The idea for the game was born in the 2000s

Pokémon Pokopia doesn’t look much at first glance, and yet it is one of Omega Force’s most ambitious projects. This is what director Takuto Edagawa implies at Famitsu (article translated by Automaton), indicating that the game requested the most massive team possible at Omega Force to work on this spin-offwithout giving any figures. A team that still knew the subject well, since many employees had already worked on the Dragon Quest Builders, which uses the same prince as Pokémon Pokopia (including Takuto Edagawa).

However, the idea for the game came from Game Freak. The article tells us that it is Shigeru Ohmori, a veteran of the license Pokémonwho pushed this concept in the first place. His inspiration comes not so much from recent successes in the genre, but from an old idea he had 25 years ago when he was working on Pokémon Ruby And Sapphirewhen he was in charge of the games map.

It was when he saw one of his assistants place blades of grass on this map (which automatically hid wild Pokémon) that he wanted to create a game in which we could have fun creating a world where Pokémon could live their lives. Initially, the idea was only to offer a simulation game, but that evolved and that’s why Ditto came into the equation, in order to have a Pokémon that could transform into a human to hold tools, and therefore add a layer of crafting to the whole.

Pokémon Pokopia will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5. To learn more about the game, be sure to check out our recent preview of it.
